26 Feb Build Infrastructure Awards 2019 – Modular Design Building Experts of the Year – England
The Offsite Construction industry is a fast-growing industry that is becoming a competitive method of construction for its traditional bricks and mortar counterpart. Offsite construction methods are revolutionising the way that buildings are built…buildings can be delivered in a short time-frame, without compromising on quality.
It is this fast method of construction and the way that it can be fully utilised to create bespoke designs, so that clients get a fully bespoke tailor-made solution for their requirements, that is setting Modulek apart from the crowd.
The Air Ambulance Kent, Sussex and Surrey
Back in 2018, Modulek were invited to tender on a full design and build basis, and were given just a 30m x 20m space to work with, along with an outline brief, for a new office building for the Air Ambulance Kent, Sussex and Surrey trust.
The client required a replacement of their existing head office in Marden, Kent. Being a busy charity, that is hard at work, saving lives every minute of the day, it was vital that the charity’s day to day operations were not disrupted and therefore Modulek had to come up with a solution that could be delivered quickly, and on budget.
The design team at Modulek worked with the client to develop a bespoke solution, that would meet the client’s operational needs. This meant that the many departments of the head office became incorporated into one building with a unique space layout, enabling the organisation to operate more efficiently than ever before, resulting in an improved and expanded service to be offered to patients that benefit from this life-saving charity organisation.
Modulek liaised with Air Ambulance, Kent, Sussex and Surrey, right from the initial planning and design stage, all the way through to completion and handover.
The building shows how far modular construction has come in the last few decades. Many of us tend to reflect back to our school days when we used to sit in grey, bleak and dismal timber mobile buildings, that were often cold, with leaking roofs. This is something that is of the past, and this is truly demonstrated with the new building that Modulek provided. This is a building that has bespoke cladding, to give the building a truly unique feel. The building created was truly something unique and modern, reflecting the charities hopes and aspirations for the coming years.
Modulek’s full steel space frame design gives the building a 60 year design life, which are incorporated with key design features such as Kingspan cladding, traditional brick facade, decorated, jointless, smooth walls internally, and expansive smart screen walling systems, creating a working environment, that will inspire the trust’s voluntary workers, to push ever further forward to take this vital service to the next level.
Modulek is revolutionising the modular industry, with their bespoke and innovative designs, and it is this that has led to them being awarded Modular Design Building Experts of the Year in the infrastructure category, of the yearly Build Awards.
The Build Awards
The ever-popular Build Awards, launched in 2015, remains a key part of BUILD magazine’s awards programme portfolio. Following a tough year, the industry is back again to do what it does best, design and build the best world around us. With sustainable solutions, greater HSE standards and regulations including ever challenging environmental considerations there are many new challenges and opportunities in this vital and ever-evolving space. The markets involved in these endeavours, and more, continue to experience growth, and this is something that is celebrated throughout this programme.
Here at Modulek, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of clients for giving us the opportunity to design buildings that are truly unique, and innovative, and for giving us the opportunity to further advance this fast growing industry.
